Eastman "Pearl Harbor", this time worn. Tree, lawn and everything else...

Hello everybody ,

as promised a couple of more shots of me wearing the Eastman "Pearl Harbor".
As I've mentioned before it really is a lightweight jacket which makes it perfect even for the warmer months of the year.

It must be due to the straight vegetable tanning and the thin but densely woven lining that the jacket is so lightweight because the leather itself doesn't feel thin or flimsy at all! In fact it is quite stiff (as you would expect from veg tanned leather).

The Eastman "Pearl Harbor" is a very well made and comfortable A2 and a perfect summer alternative to Aero's heavy Front Quarter Horsehide.
It might not be a true replica of any specific contract but with its Crown zipper, collar stand and nicely done time worn finish it certainly looks and feels like the real deal

Wow, it's a nice one, and a great fit. What's the back length on that baby, Jan? And I thought you weren't too keen on A2s. Sir J

Back length is 23 1/4 without and 26 inches including the knit (measured without collar stand).

I still think that the M422a pattern is a smarter looking and better fitting jacket. It can be worn a lot tighter without beeing restrictive. But this A2 ticked a lot of boxes and it really was too good to pass...

It sure looks extremely nice! I bought the .50Cal instead of the Pearl Harbour jacket for the Cherry knits. They are basically the same kind of design and steerhide leather. I am actually wearing mine today back to work.

But you see, the trouble for the .50Cal and the Pear Harbour is that, the cutting is quite generous at the waist. You don't see it from the front, but at the back, to some fellow forum members here, is considered to be blousy. I personally have no problem with that, esepcially when you wear a thicker sweater underneath.

My first attraction to the A2 was to the rust knits, actually, which I thought looked pretty funky - and, crucially, really different from my other jackets. But now I'm not sure about the rust (perhaps too jarring against the current oil pull HH?) but really like the look of Aero's 38-1711-P A2. Sir J

Nice jacket, Jan. ELC make a great A2. Pity they've shot up in price in recent years, but that's one of those things - they're not alone in that. I've got a very nice Roughwear (I think, from memory) ELC A2 that I picked up used on eBay for a great deal. They've gone up a little in price on the used market, it seems to me, since the new jackets went up, but there are still deals to be had. I agree that an A2 can be worn at times when the heavy horse Aeros are too much... I wore my ELC and an Aero goat A2 for a few weeks longer into the warmer weather than my Halfbelt, though alas the only leather I can wear (and then only occasionally) is my lighter goat Wested Indy jacket (which was bought with that sort of use in mind).

The leather is really nice. I thought my Pearl Harbor was a great A2 but didn't like the fit on me. On reflection, there was probably nothing wrong with it. Yours looks great. Your pics are legendary.

Yes, the grass is much greener here than last year because the weather is s**t. It's cold and wet and we have, well, jacket weather :-(

Funny how it works..........if we were to see your tree and lawn area without you in the picture, we would all say, "Hey, that's Jan's tree!"

If we see a picture of you, without the tree, we would all say, "Hey Jan, where's the tree?"

It's vegetable tanned spray finished cowhide.
