Eastman (USA) offers the A-2 style leather jacket in Havana Brown color in choice
of goat,horse or steer hide.
I believe Havana is a medium shade of brown, more or less, as oppose to seal brown
which is a darker brown.
If this is the case, that is the shade of brown which I like.
Not sure about the hide.
Any info, advise or comments on which hide you would prefer & why ?
I use Eastman as an example, or if there is some other sources, please let me know.
Thanks.

My understanding is goat and horse are the only two hides used for real A2's. But if you like it, and it doesn't matter, it's quite similar to HH. Me, an A2 needs to be HH.
I like all colors. Get one of each :)

I love steer and horse. Goat is my least favorite.
I like the aging of the heavier HH and steer.
The A2 is one of my top 3 jackets. I expect to die with a bunch of them. Lots of good vendors. Research first. This is the place!

I concur with the others; horsehide is the way to go, in my opinion. Goat is the only other authentic option, but I don't prefer it. I'd actually rather go with steerhide over goat, despite the former's period incorrectness. Also, have you considered the options available from other jacket makers?

Yep, agreed. And of course I recommend looking at the many vendors of repro A2's.
Good Wear
Aero
Gibson & Barnes
Lost Worlds
RMNZ
And at the lower end, The Cockpit, Schott. Not meaning they're not good, just not the same as the first group in quality (or cost)

Thanks for the sound advise !
According to Mr. John Chapman, what I'm looking for in a leather jacket will take at least
4 months or more…..well….good things are worth waiting for I guess !

Yep, it's the hard part! But good luck, and of course, when you get something, post some pics here!

Got a russett brown - close to what Eastmann calls a Havana Brown - horsehide and a seal brown goat. For some reason the goat is the one I use most. It's nice and soft while the horse took some time to break in. And it's still a bit on the "heavy side" - even after 10 years.

I have an ELC in horse (Roughwear contract), and an Aero in goat, both seal. I enjoy both, though the goat gets worn more as it is "tidier" (horse needs a bit of treatment). Oddly, moth love the knits on the ELC, but they leave the Aero alone.

What about Bill Kelso? Sure they're not based on any particular contract but members that have purchased from them seem pretty satisfied. Also, they use horsehide too, and if i'm correct they can also customize the size if needed.

Of course. I just rifled off some names. I'm sure there's others too.
They don't go big though. I already asked all of the above, including Kelso. Bummed me out.
