I always come across great vintage rayon gabardine garments that have faded or have sun damage. Is it possible to "DIY" dye these garments without damaging the fabric?

I've Rit-dyed a few cotton shirts, but I've always been afraid to try it on rayon.

Also, I always hear about "professionally dyeing," but who does this? Where would I go to get this done?

I am talking about dyeing something like this:

I wouldn't gey your hopes up. Once you leave natural fiber territory, dyeing becomes a skilled trade - toxic substances, specialized equipment, etc. It's how professionals stay professionals.

Just like tailoring, leather and hatmaking - other fading industrial arts - that usually means dealing with a handful of shops who have a high reputation and will charge for it.

Resortes, PM or message pdxvintagette on Facebook. She has tons of know how and practical experience regarding this I believe, she once gave me the rundown on dying gabardine, which she has done successfully in the past.

It can be done, but I doubt it will ever look like the original fabric again. Let us know how you get on with it though! Although I always pass on faded gabs (just don't have the time and no guarantees on the results), I am curious to see how this turns out!
