I was watching the annual screening of 'out of the past' last night, one of the best, Jane Greer is a stunner, and the way Mitchum wears that tcoat outshines even Bogie for my money, but it got me thinkin..did John Wayne ever do a trenchcoat movie?
First off, Out of the Past is an excellent film!!

I believe Wayne did wear a trench. I recall a 40's b&w film where The Duke plays an army officer and wears a trenchcoat. I cannot remember the name of the film...
Is it The Flying Tigers?

of Hazzard?

The title of this thread threw me for a second.

Unless Wayne wore a trenchcoat in McQ (which I haven't seen), I do not recall him ever wearing one. But it's been years since I've seen The Flying Tigers, so I can't say for sure. However, I believe he did sport some nice Hawaiian shirts while chasing down James Arness' killer in "Big Jim McLain."

Doesn't he wear a trenchcoat, or a close cousin, in the Quiet Man? It isn't a trench coat movie per se, but I do remember him walking into the little cottage, the coat whipping in the wind, and then he grabs Maureen O'Hara when she tries to run out

last year a guy was selling on ebay some of the hawaiian shirts big john wore in or while filming Donovan's Reef, i think it was, but it might have been Big Jim.mc.. anybody here buy one?

I just watched Donovan's Reef for the first time (good, over-the-top cheesy movie, by the way), and don't recall him wearing a hawaiian shirt. He mostly wore military-type khaki shirts, and a nice white tropical-style shirt. But I'll have to watch it again, because I was mostly paying attention to the jeep and Lee Marvin's ferocious over-acting.
