Hello all, I have several jackets to review, all acquired in the last 7 months or so. I’ll start with this gem
INTRODUCTION
Good Wear Leather 27798 (Dubow) pre-production model, size 48 – Dubow’s of course known for pointed collars, curved pocket flaps, square shoulders, large epaulets, etc. This particular wartime contract lacks a collar stand. Jacket looks slightly shiny in the pics - not at all in real life.
Jacket from the front
Jacket from the back
ORDERING AND ARRIVAL
Well . . . I didn’t really order it per say. Called Jon Chapman, talked about what he had, and ordered the two largest Dubow Proto’s he had. One went to me, the other to my Brother – see his review and pics here

Of course nicely packed, etc.
MEASUREMENTS & FIT
I measure a 43" chest, circa 195 lbs, 5’11” tall. Not really much of a gut. The jacket is tagged as a 48 . . . but . . . I shrunk the jacket to fit using the hot water technique and the ‘stick it in the dryer’ technique (jacket zipped, on low heat, checking constantly, with a bunch of towels). It is essentially now a size 46.
Armpit to armpit - 24"
Front Length - 24"
Back length – 22-1/2"
Arm length top - 23"
Arm length bottom – 18-1/2”
Epaulet length - 7 "
Cuffs – 2”
Waistband – 3”
I think the jacket fits well, slightly loose in the midsection, no binding in the chest, perfect length. I could wear a light sweater underneath if I so desired. Very authentic fit (IMO) and in-line with WWII examples.
View of the front, pockets are still a little stiff which holds the front out slightly
Arms crossed in imitation of the posed photos you often see of crews in front of aircraft
Couple views from the side
View of the back
and an open view. Here you can see where the pockets are still slightly stiff holding the front open - will soften with wear
go to part II
