Anyone have any opinions about whether the Dove Gray Borsalino listed on Ebay right now is vintage? I am kind of new to vintage hats and while I think it is a gorgous hat the bidding is getting interesting. Any help is apperciated.

It's certainly from the "good" period of Borsalinos.
I have one just like it. Great hat.

And it's certainly going to be expensive now that
you posted it here and let everyone know!

I don't have the experience to answer your question, however you can do a completed auctions search on ebay (go to the advanced search screen). It will give you recently completed auctions that fit your search terms. Of course, if it's a rarer item or if past auctions were poorly listed that won't help much.

Besdor is probably best qualified to answer that, 6. I trust he'll find this and weigh in.
I believe I read that the company moved into a different manufacturing facility some time back and that their product just hasn't been the same since. Was the quality slipping even before then?

Our friend 'mandolinwolfman' won this beauty for $300.00. I kept looking at it but I could see it was going up, up, up! Darn!....it wudda fit too! I have two other Borso's from this era that are as clean and well maintained - both tan. I sure would have loved to own this one, but it's not in the budget for yet another hat. It is encouraging to know that if things get skint, I can sell mine and one of us will pay $300 bucks for it!!!

It must be true; if people are willing to pay that much for a fedora, they must be in demand, and people must want them and wear them. That means we're changing people's hat habits I guess.

Welcome 'mandolinwolfman' to the club - drop us a line with picture of you and your new lid!
