Double breasted jackets

I just received a gray double jacket that has the 39 union label in it and I wanted to know about buttoning. I realize that the right side should go in and the left out, but the jacket has two button holes on each side like it could be done either way. I'd look at my others but they are at the tailor. Is there a right and wrong way? I never see in any movies that they buttoned it left to right, but just thought I'd ask.

Women right over left historically as to ease a right handed person dressing them.

Is it for the same reason that Mens shirts and single breasted jackets button that way. SWORD drawing??

Actually when fighting with a sword a man wants his jacket to close in the opposite direction. Reason being, if the blade slides across you while fighting with your right hand, the tip won't have access... Trust me!

Right over left for sword play.
