I barely know tweed from a pilly towel, so I can't figure this one out. I see some tweeds identified as "Donegal" others as "Harris" and most as nothing in particular. What the skinny?

Donegal tweeds are from Ireland; Harris tweeds are hand-woven in the Outer Hebrides. Judging from the ones I've seen, Donegal tweeds tend to be lighter weight and more tightly woven than the Harris tweeds. I have several jackets of each and like them equally.

Yes, in my experience, Harris tends to be 'fuzzier' by comparison to the Donegal.

I would add that they are both geographical marks: much like only fizzy white wines brewed in the Champagne region of France may be sold as Champagne, Only tweeds woven in Donegal and Harris may be marked as the respective variety of tweeds. There are distinct differences between the two, but these are down to localised availability of material at time of origin, local crafts, etc; the names refer to location of origin rather than signifying anything about the chratcer of the tweed itslf.

Dagnabbit!

I had my Harris Tweed Herringbone jacket on at the meet up Mike! I would have let you examine it closely had I known!

I got a good look, but it would have cool to get a closer look. Especially side by side with Ignatz, because he had his Donegal! :eusa_doh:

By the way I noticed I bumped the wrong thread for pictures.
