I really like this hat. It's a beautiful shade of slate blue. There are some issues with it, however, that I could use some help with. In the first and second picture, you'll notice the crown above the ribbon is slightly lighter in color than the rest of the hat. It arrived in its original box having been stored for about 40 years, said the seller, whose grandfather owned the hat. It strongly appears that the oval cardboard centerpiece in the box has bleached the color where it contacted the hat.

Moreover, where the centerpiece (which was slightly bent) touched the top of the brim, it bleached it as well.

And oddly, the bleaching went all the way through the brim, as evidenced by this photo of the underside of the brim.

Have any of you seen similar bleaching associated with hat boxes? I'm assuming there's nothing I can do about it. I haven't cleaned or steamed the hat yet. Should I be concerned that the color may not be fast?

Another fine Hat!..I haven't seen that sort of discoloration on any of my oldies. I'd take it to a reputable hatterfor the definative answer! I'm sure this forum has plenty of resources for that!

No, Honestly,..being at a loss for a clever screen name I actually used my last name and the year of my birth. But I am familiar with the aircraft parts supplier of the same name..by pure coincidence I worked on aircraft for the better part of 25 years.

There was a pin up artist in the golden years named Vargas, and his pin ups were sometimes known as Varga Girls.

Dear Uncle Alberto...How I have missed him !... Of course Alberto Vargas was from Peru and my own surname is Hungarian.I do own a few of his books. What perfection in his art. If you will allow me to only slightly digress, my recollections at seeing his work in Esquire and Playboy as a young boy....Inspiring to say the least!....hmmm bout time for a cigar!!

On Hiatus. Really. Or Not.
Very, very interesting...

Varga and Jake:

This looks like a WAY cool venue. We have GOT to plan something there! Maybe if we played our cards right we could even arrange a warbird fly-in! How far is Fredericksburg from the major airports: Austin? San Antonio? Dallas? Let's put our heads together on this one!

Beware the Thunderbolt!

PS: Jake you offer pilot lessons in that bird?

Fredericksburg is approximately 70 miles from from both Austin Bergstrom and San Antonio international airports. In August the Hanger Hotel hosted a retro USO dance. My Wife and I were'nt able to make it but did meet some really nice wwII reinactment folks from the Dallas. They came in our shop and noticed my hats (I resell some of my fedora collection at our shop...whole nother story!!). They were in F'burg for the USO dance. Wonderful folks! F'burg also has a very good WWII Pacific Theater museum named after Admiral Chester Nimitz, who was born and raised hplenty of great food, geographical phenomena,a swimming hole or two still exist that haven't been franchised, heck you can even walk down main st. and drink a beer!

I found my vintage glasses at an antique shop in a nearby town..had em reworked by a jewler friend had my prescription put in and there ya go!
