What do you gentlemen make of the double breasted dinner jacket (tuxedo)? How does it compare to the single breasted style? Is it merely a matter of personal preference?

That post on formal wear is marvelous! I have the opportunity of buying a double breasted for quite cheap but my own preference is for the single breasted.

Thank you!

Bird's One View, I believe the jacket has 6 buttons!

It's only cheap and a good deal if it's what you want and you're going to wear it. Hold out for what you really want!

True, the most expensive items to own are those that go unused. As for DJ's, I would get a one button SB peak lapel before adding a DB or Shawl.

Thanks, guys! All those links were extremely helpful!

By cheap I mean $20 cheap, hence my consideration.

Double breasted is the most casual/least formal type of formal wear, but in many ways I thinks it's the coolest, and most "vintagey". I always felt like George Raft in my old one.
