Hello & welcome to the Lounge!!! I suggest you read thru this thread to get started on bowlers & derby hats. When you are ready to order a really high quality one give Tiffani at Optimo Hats a call at 773-238-2999. When Optimo is expensive, they are worth it. Or another option for custom is our own Art Fawcett a call.
Might depend on your head size, plus chance. There are some wonderful old ones on eBay, and at reasonable prices since Indiana Jones and Sam Spade didn't wear them, but the offerings are skewed toward smaller heads. I got lucky and recently found a 1920's Stetson in 7-1/2.
Welcome to the Lounge, neighbor! Nice to see another Puebloan around here.
I second what Mayserwegener said, if you're looking for a proper one, as no manufacturer or hatter today seems to be able to replicate the classic style. That being said, Stetson offers a nice-looking modern Derby, which should be easy to get. Vintage ones are readily available, just depends on what you want to spend and what size you need.
Vintage derby's are the way to go in my opinion. Recently I got a vintage Borsalino black derby for $35 plus shipping all the way from Copenhagen. Seller said it belonged to his great grandfather who owned a tobacco shop there and wore it as his Sunday hat. The Borsalino is with my local hatter Mr. Corvelli who is restoring it. Be sure to find an expert like him to clean it when you find some vintage hat you like. Happy hunting.
