The DVD title is "Walt Disney Treasures - On the Front Lines." It has a lot of WWII era cartoons and training films. It also has a presentation featuring Alexander de Seversky, designer of the Seversky P-35 that was the precursor of the P-47 Thunderbolt.

You know, I've never seen that clip before!!! Hahahahaah I LOVED IT!!! Donald Duck is such a crack up!!! I like it when he's in bed and the little alarm clock has nothing but swastikas on the face instead of numbers... hahahhaha every thing is inundated with swastikas! Even the trees!!! Then Donald pulls the shade down and says: SHUT UP! to the band marching... hahaha classic Donald!

Amazing. My 1st thought was that we could never do anything akin to this today or we'd upset the sensibilities of someone somewhere with our "Politically Correct Uber Alles!"

Not a fair comparison - South Park is a cable show that airs late at night with major disclaimers on a channel that specializes in outrageous/offensive fare. That Disney cartoon played for months in every movie theater in the country, and surely in other Allied countries too.

It was a different world, and not least among the differences was that they had something that doesn't exist anymore called a "general audience"!

But if an animator did a cartoon EXACTLY like the Disney one with the basic exception of Saddam Hussein and his cronies substituted and word play on his Hitleresque regime there would have been hell to pay by indignant PC people ranting about it. Remember Denmark had Alla depicted in a newpaper cartoon and the

about it.[huh]

I know what you chaps are saying...

Can you hear the 'but' coming? Well the 'but' is, that Der Fuhrer's Face was a propaganda cartoon of it's day in "WWII" to bolster the folks back home (hence we're in the WWII room).
As many of you good folks know already, Disney Studios did much for the war effort, even to the point of helping design Squadron Patches with the likes of Goofey, Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck on them (maybe that's a thread all of it's own???, on how the studios got involved in the war effort).
:eek:fftopic: BUT....Talking of something similar for today's audiences is an interesting discussion chaps, BUT one more worthy of The Observation Bar, not the WWII room.

Disney (the man and the corporation) was certainly patriotically American, and so against the war enemy, but it's still not entirely clear where the line between very conservative white showcase world and an actual proximity to Nazism is with him, both before and after the war. Google it.
