I am looking at the brim to crown ratio (claimed 2 3/8" brim & 5 1/4" crown), band width as well as the liner & hoping that this might be c. 30s rather than the c. 50s as the seller guessed in the listing.

Does anyone have a similar Cavanaugh liner w/ an approximate date nailed down?

Nobody's got a guess?

The most useful information - the tag, the pugaree, the sweat - are not visible enough to really help, so it's going to be tough. Also, it looks like it might be a homburg, a style that didn't change a whole lot with fashion. I think it is safe to say that it is probably not thirties and definitley not late fifties. I'm guessing no earlier than very late 30s and no later than mid-50s, most likely mid to late-40s - which is really no help at all.

Still, I went down swinging.

That looks like a standard Cavanagh style from the early Fifties, and the all the dimensions certainly support that. Cavanagh pretty much used the same basic liner from the Forties onward, so that's no help. Since it doesn't have a black sweat, it's probably no later than 1955 or so.

That's definitely not a homburg.
Cavs are hard to date, as their guts stayed the same for a long time.

Thanks Fellas!

The sugarloaf shape, jet dent & lack of pinch, to my eye, also seemed to suggest the 1930's.
Thanks to all for weighing in. I'll try to post more detailed pix when it arrives.
Also, the size tag is said to read "L 7 1/4-7 3/8". I do seem to recall having seen some other nice vintage dress hats with this sizing but I was still a little suprised.
