Hello everyone, I'm planning on visiting Mississippi, around Jackson, in the near future and was wondering if Loungers would happen to know of any good places to go dancing. I'm looking for mainly Ballroom/Latin, but other things like Lindy or Swing would be fun too. I would love to try some American Smooth classes whilst I'm there, as we don't get much of that over here.

Thank you!

I live in Yazoo, which is about 40 mins away from Jackson.

Sadly, there are not many dance clubs in the area for swing, ballroom, etc. It is not as vibrant a scene here as in other places. But there is a place called Mississippi Dance Connection that offers both instruction and I believe they hold a dance party with a variety of styles from western to swing to latin, etc.

Here is the link. I have never been myself but it may be worth a shot.

Word of Advice: I do know there is a dance club in Jackson that promotes swing dancing called The Swing Club. Only it's not the swing you or I are thinking of...it's a whole other type of club. I warn you not to venture inside looking to dance the night away in there. Just thought I would warn you. :)

However, here are a few links to check out before your visit to Jackson. Aside from dancing, there are some great sites to visit, eat at or possible stay. Enjoy your trip.

The King Edward Hotel is a wonderful Golden Era hotel to stay at.

The Mayflower Cafe is a great vintage diner with great food. Atmosphere is amazing.

And then there is the Fondren District which is heaven. It's a section of town remodeling in the Deco style with a variety of dining spots, boutiques, stores, thrift shops, galleries, etc.

I'll have to wait to see what they'll have scheduled in March! I'll be staying in Brandon; to be honest my understanding of the geography of that area is pretty darn non-existent at the moment. I assume it's close to Jackson...?

Thanks for the tip; I was hoping to go out for a hot time on the ole' town with my cousin and mum, but methinks, ahem, not that hot!

Perhaps they might do a nice afternoon tea?

Unfortunately, I'm a vegetarian and think I will lead quite a sheltered stay insofar as restaurants are concerned! The last time I visited I got taken out to a Japanese restaurant (me thinking, yay!, cucumber maki, inari sushi...) and it turned out to be a teppanyaki-style place where they cook the veg in the exact same place where they cook the meat :eeek:! I refused to eat anything, which had my cousin rolling in the aisles and her hubby totally annoyed at me. The incident has not been forgotten, and it was nearly a decade ago...

No prob and please post pics of your visit. :)

Sorry, there is not a lot of great scenes here in Mississippi. Our vintage is more of a search than most. But when you find them, it's worth it. :)
