Scuba divers discovered the rusting hulks of two Centaur CS IV tanks, complete with heavy guns, on the seabed eight miles off the West Sussex coast.

You may find this book intriguing "The Forgotten Dead" by Ken Small.

I read this book years ago about a D Day hush up.
Basically, and I am not going to ramble on here, Ken Small discovered a Sherman tank just off the Devon coast sunk in the sea. He then set out to find out why it was there and proceeded to recover it.
The book is fascinating and kept me so absorbed I read it all in a day. One intriguing part is how the US Army would not originally allow Mr Small to recover the tank because it had not been decommissioned and made safe as members of the general public were not allowed to own mobile armour that was still officially US Army property and carried a non deactivated gun. Despite the fact the tank had been underwater for so many years.

Wow, that is really messed up. I had never heard of Exercise Tiger before. Almost a 1,000 men lost on an exercise seems a bit hard to cover up. Also the fact that there were really two incidents that contributed to to casualties, friendly fire and the E-boat attack a day later. It is good that Ken Small put forth his energies and time to create a memorial and spread the awareness of this tragic event.

Thanks for the post.
