Thank you to Carrie at Thurston Bros and Julie Leich at Aero for helping me with my idea for a 1930s "aviator" style jacket. My first impressions are that the Vincenza hide has much more body that I expected (from the swatch) and that I am very pleased with the fit. It is going to take a while to break this stuff in but I am up for the challenge.

I plan to have a custom sheepskin collar made to give it the look of my original inspiration jacket which was actually a vintage Aero moto...

Looks great, including the fit. I have a russet Vicenza Sheene and can attest to the fantastic look and hand of this hide.

Great leather, unique idea. Well done. That's the kind of a jacket a man could become known for.

Thank you for all the comments, I am very happy with the jacket!

The vincenza is a good deal "heavier" that I had imagined it would be. It has a wonderful hand and is actually very supple but it's substantial which makes the jacket stiff for lack of a better term. The color is very rich, I think this batch is perhaps a bit darker than some that Ive seen on here (thinking of that gorgeous Russet Seven in particular) but I really do love the shade.

There's a local leather seamstress who was my original choice for the collar but she said she could't do it. Shaul at US Authentic said he could but hasn't seen pics of the actual jacket yet, I had sent him a pic of the Beck 333 (that DD was going to make me)

Once I get the vincenza piece and the sheepskin I plan to swing by Langlitz to ask if they'd do it and maybe also Settlemeirs which is our local (and awesome) source for varsity jackets.

In the meantime I will be wearing it to work and play which will hopefully break it in soon! When I first tried it on the sleeves seemed too long but within a few hours of wearing/driving etc they started bunching and creasing and are about perfect length, maybe 3/8" long. My pics don't show it but the cuffs button also and have "points" similar to the throat latch and the pocket flap so there is a consistency (or a method to my madness).

There is some room for layering, a sweater would probably work. The buttons are very hard to operate at this time but again things will stretch and soften and hopefully become easier. The throat latch is nearly impossible to do myself (my wife lent a hand) but once closed it actually seems to work. With the addition of the collar I think the button will need to shift forward a bit of I'll strangle myself.

Fit wise I might have nipped and tucked very minor things (maybe 1/2" at the shoulders, things like that) but overall it is definitely the coolest jacket Ive owned and I am extremely pleased with the entire process.

I will post outdoor pics at some point and if/when that collar is done will definitely update the post.

As many of you have experienced Aero is amazing and Carrie at Thurston is providing a wonderful service for US customers including the amazing fast turn times!
