Geez Jeff....................that sounds really high. I ordered a Highwayman when I was in Iraq back in Feb. and had it delivered to Arizona. UPS charged $38.00 for Customs.
I paid for the jacket with the American Express Card and they bent me over for, I believe it was $8.00, currency conversion fees.

I'm planning a trip to Europe in 2013 and I'm gonna do what ButteMT61 did........pick the jacket up in Scotland. Of course with my luck they will go through my bags on the return trip to the U.S., find the receipt for the jacket(s) and nail me with Customs fees!

Regards,
coffee

Jeez, that's outrageous - where do you live? I have been wondering about how much I would pay in Customs fees if I re-make my order with Aero.

Does anyone know how these fees work? I've bought three pairs of boots from across the pond and never paid a dime for customs fees. Do they only apply for items that are above a certain value?

I've given up trying to fathom how HM Revenue & Customs calculates what is owed. The vast majority of my stuff gets through without any fee being levied. (Thanks, Tory government for cutting funding for pretty much everything, including customs officers!)

However, for a leather jacket the fee is supposed to be 4% of value above a threshold of, I think, £30. For other clothing it's supposed to be 7% of value above threshold. Then parcel Force adds on £12 processing fee. This is often many times more than the actual customs fee. So, on a £600 jacket, I would expect to pay about £24 + £12 = approx US $50. I will add that I ALWAYS have to fight for a portion of my money back from Customs. Cheeky buggers just change the dollar sign to a pound sign, and claim 4% or 7% of that, rather than converting the weak dollar value appropriately. AND they add the postage fee from the US to the value they charge import duties on. They really are scum. It's an important and necessary job, but they shouldn't be sneaky, trying to raise more revenue than they are due.[huh]

$150 seems exceedingly high. Maybe your State has some weird import duties in addition to Federal?

Sounds like a nightmare. I am waiting for a barnstormer I just order Thursday, we'll see what happens in the great state of Oklahoma.

Gentlemen,
I just received my Cafe Racer yesterday from Aero and it costs me $65.00 here in Southern California through UPS. Side note-The UPS guy told me that had it been a product from Mexico it would have been around $200.00.

I received a bill from UPS for $66.00 for customs fees about a week ago. I am planning on ignoring it for the moment or until I get another invoice. The jacket was a "Sale" unit off Aero's site and I paid roughly $60.00 in shipping fees. I am not sure if "Sale" is the same as used since I am sure this jacket was not a new employee version of their jackets one sometimes sees.

Has anyone else received a bill from UPS after delivery? Just curious how y'all may have handled it?

The invoice for custom fees that you received from UPS sounds about right and would go ahead and pony up now and possibly save yourself later hassle. When I picked up my Aero jacket at UPS, I had to give them a money order for the exact amount.

I agree I thought it might be correct but wanted to run it by the group to see if others had run into similar situations.

Yep, Signal Mountain Guy. UPS treated you much better than me by at least mailing you an invoice to you. I had to find a bank in 105 degree Texas heat and get a money order to take back to UPS before they would even give me my jacket. I saw your earlier pictures of the Aero that you were sent that looks great on you.

Dare I say that on Signal things are a little different. We know our UPS guy by name. Hell he noticed our piano in the living room and my wife ask him if he knew how to play....he gave us a small concert....

You'll be happy to hear we're changing courier from UPS, so hopefully there won't be so many/such high customs charges from here on in.
