A small liberal arts college in Lebanon housed the 2nd Army Field Headquarters, where soldiers practiced war games on terrain similar to what they would face in Europe.

Now, Cumberland University wants to bring back as many veterans as it can find and honor their service with honorary master of military arts degrees.

Nashville- well, close enough
I saw this in The Tennessean a couple of days ago. I was particularly intrigued by photo #9, since I live in that area. Those were some massive field exercises! I realize most of the area was farmland at the time (and still is), but it's strange to imagine a FX of that size in a fairly inhabited area.

See what they made me do? Now I have to buy another book :)

"In The Presence of Soldiers", is a great book and you won't regret buying it, especially if you live in the area. My relatives lived right in the midst of the maneuvers area and there are pictures of soldiers from the maneuvers in our family album.
Woody McMillin, who wrote the book, is a great guy and has more stories that he has heard since the book came out.

My oldest aunts tell that my grandmother fixed food for the GI's who would sneak away from maneuvers and visit the local farmhouses to get good home-cooked meals.
