You certainly give Thedi a run for his money in the creativity department. This is awesome. Everything about it is cool.
It came out really nicely!
For those who don’t follow the new arrivals and on the way thread, I just recently picked up this great Bates cross zip. The leather is absolutely fantastic it’s supple, strong, and hefty with really great grain. I love the pocket configuration and lack of a coin pocket. It does have a stiff kidney panel and I am considering having the stiffener removed by Johnson Leathers. All in all, really stoked for my first jacket in this style.

Don't remove the kidney panel thing! I always believed that makers know better what they're doing than we think we do. Something might turn out wrong if you remove it, something which was taken into the account when the panel was being made. Like, the lower back might end up warped or it will stick out or something... Maybe it'll look good but I don't think it's wise to risk it.
Fantastic jacket in any case and that's exactly how I want my cross zip to fit!
Fair enough and your points are pretty much in line with my concerns (plus the $150 & shipping to remove it)
I wore it a bit this morning after giving it some time to air out, and really the stiff section doesn’t jump out so starkly in person when moving around etc compared to a still picture of the back.
That's a beauty Mr. Frown. Glad to see you not frowning as you zipped it up!
I agree that "stiffened" lower back panel looks a bit odd in the still photo, but when you move around in it, it should work out well. Does it actually give some back support (I think that was the original intent.)
You mention air it out, does it have any odors? Sadly, many of those wonderful vintage pieces have a "forever" smell that got imparted to them over decades. Sort of like patina for the nose. Enjoy your new jacket - it will be a great piece to have in the fall.
I hadn't heard of this brand prior to your post. Very nice jacket. I love the wool houndstooth liner in red and black.^^ Very nice jacket there navetsea - I do think you have a future in jacket design!
Does anyone have one of these? I just really like this design in a more Itallian FQHH:

Damn. I'm afraid I just fell in love with this jacket. I haven't seen this model on the Aero side yet. Isn't the Ridley a regular model?

Like Marker2037 already observed, The Ridley is a slimmed down Version of the J-106 from the regular Aero stock. A "premier fit" if you want to say so. They do it to the "Bootlegger" as well, which was the perfect solution for me as I find the regular cut way too boxy for my physique.
Both The "Premier" Ridley and the "Premier" Bootlegger are part of Thurston´s regular range, but of course Aero will certainly do them for you as well, upon request.
Which model did you get?No flight from Greece to the US? My BK cross zip is still not showing up on USPS stateside tracking, still at the Athens airport, for two weeks

I want a J-21 eventually.
