Not only does the "Controlled Brim" patent belong to Dalton, but the 1950 Apparel Arts Directory reads:

Thought I'd take the time to post these pics of a Courtney that I acquired a month ago or more.
This is a 5 star Courtney with the model/style designation of "Coronet", indeed from Levison hat shop.
The hat possess the wide brim edging with the "Controlled Brim" that really works!
I apologize for the rough pics, lighting was poor. I see a water spot on the brim binding that will come out easily and inside, on the liner, are some visible marks where the adhesive holding the liner in place shows through.
An all around beautiful and comfortable hat. I still need to steam out some of the wrinkley puffy areas, still a work in progress that I believe was never worn.
The hat posesses a wonderful felt, high crown adaptable to any crease or shape.
I would not be afraid to p/u another one of these gems!
Eric

Eric, sweet liner in the fedora. Your pics show a pristine liner. The company choose a very fancy gathered liner - I like it. The crease in the hat really showcases the blocking of the oldy, but goody hat. I imagine this hat would be enjoyable to wear.

Congrats and wear it well sir.

Here's an interesting style of hat made by Courtney or Harry Levinson, with the "controlled brim", I figured I'd post it here before I sell it.

It seems the brands was made for Harry Levinson. Im sure the quality was on par with most of the finer hats of the day. The hat was probably made in Danbury .

aught12 - that's a sweet looking hat (and my size!)

Thank you ManofKent. It is absolutely a sweet looking hat!

It always has a way of taking me back to my grandma and grandpa's house in about 1962. Everything looked new and perfect. New chairs and carseats were covered in plastic. The hat did not come from there, but it would have fit right in..on a closet shelf.

Very sharp Courtney DJH. Nice color in and out. Thanks for telling me about the Courtney thread. I would have posted these photos here earlier had I known. This Courtney Homburg has a 2" curled brim with grosgrain edge and a 5 3/4" open crown which is wrapped in a 1 5/8 grosgrain ribbon. The inside crown tip is embroidered all except the name "Tully's Omaha." It has a 2" unreeded leather sweatband which is taped at the back seam. I was born in Omaha but didn't grow up there. Caught my eye when I first saw the hat.

Almost 5 years since the last Courtney was added to this thread. I’m guessing they didn’t make many of them.

I just bought one on eBay for 25 dollars, Brent. It says 100% wool, but I don't think it is. Read nice things about them on this thread, so, for $25, I took a chance.

I was watching that hat. The only reason I didn’t jump on it was because the first one was actually too large for me; a rare thing. Yours looks older and nicer.
