Does anyone know the cost of replacing a zipper on an Aero biker jacket, and the cost of relining? (Don't worry, ProteinNerd, this is NOT relevant to my new Cafe Racer! ;) )

I've written to Aero, of course, but I thought I could check here, too! :)

Thanks in advance!

There's an Amish saddle shop that could do it here in Iowa for probably under $50. Helmuth Saddle Shop. However logistics of getting it to them and getting appropriate re-lining fabric would be a challenge. Have you tried asking Cary at Insurrection?

JC at Good Wear also recommended them to me for repair and they were easy to deal with. I ultimately went local (at that time) with Johnson Leathers in SF. Did not want to risk shipping my favourite jacket as I had just had a run of bad shipping incidents. So I think you'd be ok with them or JL.

Insurrection suggested Greatleather.com; has anyone dealt with them?

I'm getting an NOS triple-marked Talon I purchased installed on one of my jackets, along with knits there. :) I spoke with Dena on the phone after finding they're recommended by John Chapman, and found her quite pleasant, and knowledgeable. I haven't seen the end results yet, but they have many glowing testimonials (http://www.greatleather.com/testimonies.htm), and being recommended by JC is good enough for me.. ;)

I emailed Dena some time ago about repairs to a vintage leather I had...just like Phil Collins I got no reply at all. I was surprised as they are located in Illinois and I'm in Chicago!

I live 30 miles from Greatleather. I have been in the Shop and Dena has worked on a pile of my jackets. She has replaced Zippers, stiched seams, relined pockets, patched/repaired weak leather. I know she does relines, but have no idea about the cost. A reline, wherever done, is not inexpensive.

As mentioned, Dena is very nice and been doing this for a long time.

This reminds me again I have another pile of needs. I'll get down there this spring. I know Dena had made an effort to join the forum, but not sure if she has.

Great people, great Work.

There's a complete price list on their site... http://www.greatleather.com/prices.htm You're correct, relines are not exactly inexpensive: Reline Jacket $185 and up (average is $225)

You're fortunate to live so close to the shop.. After my current project is finished, I'm planning on sending 3-4 more of my jackets in for various things all in one shot. ;)

Thanks, I had not looked on their website. Yes, a re-line is expensive work by any shop. I had this Jacket re-lined by Dave Sheely. I have another in the same need, but not sure I will go there, at least not now.

I may plan a Trip to see Dena and drop off my pile before everyone starts sending her more work. My stuff is pretty basic. I know she has no lack of work. I'll look into doing a video on her shop. I believe we talked about that in the past. I think it would be of interest. Yes, I'm going to set that up.

My cobbler is doing the repair on my DD jacket. I hope it works out well...
But he said he can do it no problem and I trust him.

I talked to my cobbler about replacing the zipper in the old jacket I recently got. He quoted me a price of $39, but I didn't talk to him about getting a vintage zipper put in. In any case, he said he doesn't do the work himself, but a tailor picks up from him every Monday and returns it the next week. He said the tailor does better work that he could and as he's been repairing shoes since the 60s I assume he knows what he's talking about when it comes to leatherwork.
