I think the internet has taken a wall down on a lot of how we interact. People dont have to be judged on how they look, the tone of their voice, or their body language. It is indeed a free for all where you can find your own ilk and connect that way by a simple Google search. Where as face to face, altho more jaring, is much more rewarding in my opinion.

Nothing will replace human interaction. To do so would be like living on artifical sweetner, then tasting sugar, and realizing why in the world did I stray from the real thing?

I love touch smell and excitement of being in the company of other people. Your compooter cant hug you (yet;) ) and being in the presence of like minds is an experience that one can only witness.

So Ill take the ackwardness and fear of first meetings, once over that hill, the rest is hopefully a good old time for all there to have.

Yeah, I said goodbye to my MySpace account months ago. I'm thinking about doing the same with Facebook. There is something creepy about the number of "friends" one accumulates on those sites.

Connected or disconnected.

I have heard a similar type of dispariging of cell phones, that there is actually less serious human to human connecting inspite of all the cell phone chatter.

Please put down the cell phone and pay attention to your driving!

I casually mentioned something on another forum concerning the casing stones on the Giza pyramids being finished to 1/100th of an inch tolerance. Some yahoo insisted that was impossible and demanded my source. I listed 2 books by reknown egyptologists published in 1910 and 1947.

He demanded a WEB link dismissing published manuscripts alltogether! THIS is part of the problem as well- people too lazy to walk their asses into a library and depending on the internet as a valid source of true information.

I like the web and PCs but realize that any schmo can register a domain name and put anything- lies or truth on a web site so I always 1st turn to the printed page for information.

Also it would be interesting to see if this jamoke would be so hostile and confrontational in a brick and mortar situation. One thing for certain the lack of human contact fuels some people's assinine behavior.

VERY true, Twitch.
I've seen both sides of this on web forums. Thankfully most of the folk here seem to be persons of culture and courtesy.

The people at Cigar Weekly are, on the whole, good folks too. But as a moderator, there, I've run into the bad apples too. :( :( :( But the face-to-face meetings--we call cigar events "herfs" have all been amazing. I count those folks as my best friends in the world.

But I've seen too many as twitch describes, as well. As a librarian, I've had to fight that notion, if not the vehemence behind it.

It is even effecting the origins of information.

I e-mailed the Ponds Corporation and asked whytheir product was named "cold" cream. The response: We don't know, but you can look it up on the web.

I kid you not.
