Concern about Buco J-24 Sizing

Hey guys, I am thinking of getting a Buco J-24. I am 180CM 80KG.
My built is on muscular side.

My measurements:
- Chest (44')
- Shoulders (19')
- Sleeves (24.5)
- Length (31)

According to measure guide of RMC, I am suggested to get a 44.
Can I really trust that? Because I don't get to try it in person during COVID. Or should I get a 42?

Get at least a 44 or if possible a 46, these jackets are cut slim and from your chest measurement alone I doubt you’d fit into a 42

I think you should try both.
I am 188cm, 80kg , I have a RMC JH-1 in size 42 and it fits pretty well.
When i bought it i hesitated between 42 and 44 for a while as the 44 also fit well, but it was a bit big in some areas.
All that to say, depending on my preference i could have bought both the 42 an 44, i had to try both to decide which one i liked best.

I have an RMC 30's Nelson size 42. My shoulders and chest are the same as yours although my arms are longer. The 42 is slim, it looks great but is a little constraining on movement. I think its really a matter of preference, but I would think a 44 would be a standard fit and a 42 a fitted jacket. If I had it do over I might do 44. Then again the 42 looks great. So form vs function

You can see here standard and strange recommend sizing up. They are usually pretty spot on. I just purchased 1 last month. If i had sized up 1 it would be a good fit with a tshirt. I’d never get a sweatshirt under. I went up 2. I have a trim build. This is with a button down. I think you need a minimum of 4” of ease in the chest.

J-24 is slimmer than JH-1. I took a look at S&S's measurements and they seem quite accurate. It really depends on your body shape usually with broad shoulder and flat chest, one can size up comfortably.

by the way if you can get a flat head delraiser it is a similar jacket, and with your build will fit nicely. I have a size 44

The j-24 fits very slim. I think you would need a 46 in the chest. If you are on the shorter side, it may just not work for you. That's the situation I am in. I have a 42" chest at 5'7" so I may not be able to make this jacket work for me.

i very rarely zip my 42 up because its quite a squeeze, it's one of those jackets that look better unzipped anyway.

I would have to say that there’s no way you would zip up a 42 in the J24. I have a 42” chest and the 44 was snug on me. For reference the only experience I have with the rmc j24 Was trying on a brand new one for 5-10 minutes a year ago.

Very late to this thread but thought a bump might be in order.

I was considering a J24 for sale here in the classifieds but even in a size 46 the chest is more like a 42.

that said I happened to go to the RMC website and noticed they have advertised a “new fit” j24 buco with more generous measurements …. If anyone is interested here is the link:

RMC Buco jackets are parodically reverse-vanity sized. The new sizing is less so, but it's still not a case where you can order your accurate tagged size and assume it would fit.

There are different versions of the J-24. RM tweaks the cut every few years. You should check the measurements on their website and compare them to your aviation leathercraft jacket. They made a vintage cut version last season which is completely different from the normal one. The vintage cut has a very different fit e.g. wider in the chest, has bigger armhole and wider sleeves that tapered down the wrist.

I tried on a 38 and it fit me just fine over a T-shirt, even though I can't comfortably wear many US brands in the same size, like Vanson for instance. So in my experience, I definitely would not have sized up!

I just went through this process of buying an RMC J-24, so sharing my experience for reference.

I'm 5ft 8in and 165lb, usually a 36 - 38 in Western stuff, 38 - 40 in Eastern cuts.

I have a recent Freewheelers La Brea in 38 that fits wonderfully. Also have a 36 Addict Clothes AD03 that is tight but zips up with just a tshirt. My Lewis Leathers stuff is btwn 34 - 38, my Schott a size small.

I just purchased a 2019 BJ9111 J24 in 42, that is the old fit. Slim chest and high armholes, narrower sleeves, similar to other Japanese jackets I own, but I had to size up in this jacket compared to others. That's a good two sizes up from what I'd think to get usually in an Asian fit. A 40 in this jacket would fit too, but would be tight enough to not allow comfortable layering.

It fits really well regardless. Very slightly long in the body but it's brand new and I think it will mold into a perfect roomier slim cut shape for me. Weirdly, the sleeve lengths are spot on for my long arms.

I recently went to Standard and Strange NYC and tried on a 40 and 42 of the new BJ21101 2021 tweaked fit model.

The 42 was big on me. Sleeves were longer than my J24, and it was way wider.

The 40 was damn near perfect. Good amount of room to layer without being baggy and length was really good. My older 42 is v similar, and the clerk at S&S even mentioned to me that this would be the case unprompted.

I got a deal on a secondhand but unused older 42. It is still a slimmer cut than the 2021 size 40. It is very slightly longer in the body. The sleeves are actually slightly shorter on mine despite the measurements online saying they would be longer. That's likely because the sleeve taper is part of what was redone for the AW21 J24. The new fit is wider in chest and the sleeves are now "3 dimensional," meaning the armholes are lower, the sleeve starts out wider at the shoulder and tapers at the wrist. My jacket's sleeves are much narrower and straighter.

If you look closely, you can even see this in the jacket's silhouette in the stock photos, but of course it's hard to estimate how the shape changes would play out over different body types in the same size jacket between the two models.

I'd say if you are slim, the older model BJ9111 a size or two up from your normal would likely work. If you're not slim, get the new BJ21101 model in your regular size, or at most,
1 size up.

Great! It is an experience trying to size for this jacket and measurements online are somewhat all over the place, so I figured some real world experience may help.

Just adding that for me, the new model 38 or 40 is pretty ideal, because the shorter length and wider chest works better for my build. But, the older BJ9111 42 I have fits great and the silhouette is more slim fit and cleaner, albeit slightly long worn open. I don't have a problem with this because it fits me very straight and narrow, even when I wear a hoodie under it [which is what I wanted out this jacket, but wouldn't mind it about half an inch shorter in the body, which may happen as the creases set in].

If it helps, the old model is kinda like a Lewis Leathers 'Tight Fit' Japanese model, whereas the new one is like their regular UK sizing.
