Note that there are plenty of movie tie-ins among the floats -- lots of Disney, the Tin Man from Oz, and even the Fleischer Studios version of Gulliver. Even in 1939 the parade was very much a merchandising fest.

I lked the basset hound toy float. I had one of those. Neat toys for very little kids.

Nice find! I loved being able to recognize the floats from the Disney characters to the nursery rhymes (Three men in a Tub especially)! The toy dog float made me think back to having one of those pull toys when I was a kid. I wish I had one now, my four year old would love it. Now I watch the present day broadcasts and wonder "what is that? WHO is that?"
