I love cointreau - on ice, in a very hot bubble bath.

It was pretty much the only alcohol my grandmother was happy to have in the house, and she used to cook with it a lot, which has rubbed off on me. Cointreau bread and butter pudding is amazing.

I must try a White Lady - it definitely sounds like something I'd like!

Actually, it's very good on ice cream as well, as are many liqueurs.

Well, this thread inspired me to make a 'Venus de Milo' on this chilly evening here in Perth.

Venus de Milo

Double shot of cointreau
200ml Hot chocolate

Mix up a mug of frothy Hot Chocolate and pour in Cointreau. Simple and yum!

It's devine. I my hot chocolate with hot milk and Nestle Alpen Blend which makes it very smooth and chocolatey indeed...and with the Cointreau...yum!

cointreau is the best! makes a fine sour cream orange cake too. Puzzicato the bread pudding sounds good, could you please share the recipe?

sour cream orange cake

1 1/2 c butter (please not margarine)
1 3/4 c sugar
4 eggs, room temp
1/2 tsp each: lemon and orange zest
1/2 tsp vanilla (like I measure vanilla)
3 cups all purpose flour
3 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2c sour cream (not low fat)

syrup:

1/4 c orange juice
3 tbsp cointreau (like I'll measure this too)
2 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp lemon juice

butter and flour large bundt pan, set aside

cream butter and sugar in a large bowl. ad eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. mix in vanilla and zest. set aside

mix dry stuff well. add dry to butter mix alternately with sour cream, starting and ending with dry, stirring by hand. pour into pan and bake at 350F 50-60 minutes until springy

cool and invert onto a plate

for syrup heat all until boiling and cook over medium heat 2-3 minutes. pour over cooled cake. let stand 10 minutes before slicing

That cake sounds delicious!

The recipe for the B&B pudding is a bit rough, but it pretty much goes:

stale brioche (you can use normal bread or croissants, but it needs to be slightly old and dry)
butter
good seville orange marmalade
3 eggs
500ml full cream milk
2 heaping tbs sugar
slurp cointreau
demerera sugar, extra

Slice the brioche and make sandwiches with the butter and marmalade. Place in a buttered pyrex dish, standing up so the stripes of marmalade show. Whisk the eggs, sugar, milk and cointreau together, then strain over the brioche - it should come about 2/3 of the way up the sandwiches. Allow to sit for about half an hour to soak up the milk. Sprinkle with a spoonful or two of demerera sugar.

Bake in a waterbath at 170C for about 40 minutes, until the tops of the sandwiches are crusty and golden and the rest of the custard is meltingly tender. Serve warm, with cold cream.

yes, please make it and let me know what you all think... it's a recipe from the Moosewood cookbook if anyone is interested, some of the best cake recipes are from there I swear

Cointrau is good on it's own, a drop also works nicely in Coffee or even better in Hot chocolate, but the bulk of mine goes in my favorite short cocktail, the B-52.

Three equal layers in a shot glass, first Tia Maria, then Baileys, and finally the Cointreau.
