Cleaning a dirty old hat

I got a really old, and REALLY grimey fedora off ebay this week. The felt, sweatband, and ribbon are still in decent shape, but the sweat is unreeded and I couldn't sew it back on if I remove it for cleaning. So I was curious if anyone knew of a way that I could get the majority of the dirt off, and out of the hat without taking the sweat out?

I could always just replace it, but I would like to keep it as is; since the only thing wrong with the hat is that it's dirty. [huh]
