...is a film I caught by accident late night recently that's definitely worth a look at. Starring Leslie Ann Warren and Keith Carradine it appears the director is big film noir fan. Set in present day (1984) the film involves the lives of three central characters in a smoky jazz bar in a seedy section of LA. Caradine always has a cigarette dangling from his lip. It's certainly a forgotten little gem.

I saw it back when it was new and thought it was great, but I haven't seen it since then. Director Alan Rudolph (originally a protege of Robert Altman) makes interesting movies, and he has several other noir and/or retro-themed films on his resume too.

(Note that I'm of the generation who first encountered Leslie Ann Warren in the first broadcast of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella when I was about 10, and it was love at first sight! A very underrated actress.)

I totally agree. I happened upon it by chance, possibly the very same day, as a matter of fact. It is a very interesting, romantic film wrought with appealing characters and doused in a mood that only film noir can provide. Plus, it has great jazz music, most of which is accompanied by the soulful crooning of Teddy Pendergrass. I highly recommend it. :eusa_clap
