My uncle has a clock like that with electronic chimes...it drives me crazy!

One of the many reasons I use nothing but vintage Western Electric phones at home is the ringers that use real bells. I listen to the "rings" from modern electronic phones at work all day. I certainly don't need to hear that awful sound at home.

BTW, have you considered building a real chime-type clock from a kit? They can be reasonably priced and the resut is a quality produt you can be proud of.

That's an interesting idea, thanks. However, I wouldn't have time or the skills to put one of those together.

I haven't checked into this recently, but in the past, some of the clock cabinets were available built up. So all you had to do was install the movement.

Many years ago, my dad and I built a tall case clock from a kit. Since I am terrible with wood, he built the cabinet, then handed it over to me to apply the finish and install the movement. The project came out beautifully.
