Child Craft books

Hey everyone.
So...I am a huge fan of those Child Craft books. Remember them? My grandmother had a set of gray cloth hardcovers and would read to me out of them...they had the sweetest illustrations, full color. Unfortunately, she won't let me have them as they are going to my uncle. They were a gift for him when he was a child. So...dang.
Anyway, I'm trying to find an identical set. I found a set published in 1942, but the covers are orange. Supposedly they have the same content and illustrators, but I want to know more information. Such as...in what year did they publish a gray covered series? I tried calling my uncle, but he won't pick up or return my calls. grrr...
If anyone has any idea what I'm talking about...I would appreciate the assistance.

I can't help you with finding a specific year, but I do remember having a set as a kid. You can find them regularly at library book sales; like encyclopedias, no one wants a whole set of books anymore.

Thank you so much for responding! I've been asking around in real life, too...and not many people know what I'm talking about. Dunno why. [huh] They're fabulous books. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for the next library book sales.
The 1942 set that I got is quite charming, but not what I was looking for. For the price ($12.50 for the whole set!) it was worth getting and I'll definately keep 'em. I finally got a hold of my uncle and he said that his set was published in 1949. Did a quick search online and those sets are way more expensive. Seventy five bucks! It may be worth it, though. I want to see those beautiful illustrations again! :D
I wonder why people don't like getting whole sets of books?? The next set I want will be some vintage encyclopedias. As long as the internet is around, who cares if the info is out of date...right? lol
