Chicago Suit Offerings

Since I am out of the casual retail game, I am rebuilding my suit wardrobe.

Can anyone recommend a made-to-measure tailor in Chicago. The Loop, River North, Gold Coast or South Suburbs locations would be ideal. Since I am a short, stocky guy, I get everything tailored. I thought I'd try m-t-m (it'll beawhile before I can afford bespoke). I see it offered at numerous locations but I am unsure who is good.

Specifically, I was wondering about Nicholas Joseph.

I've checked out a few establishments in a round-about way and talked to most of them. I was just hoping someone had some first-hand feedback.

I love Oxxford but they are a bit out of my price range.

I have checked out Brooks Brothers and even the Decatur, IL-based retailer Bachrach but I was hoping for a "review".

This may seem a bit off topic, but I'm hoping my method helps you out. I'm a big guy; tall and stocky. What I've been doing, is buying suits off the rack, and taking them to a good tailor. Fortunately for me, I have at least 3 to choose from within 3 miles of me. For example, I needed a tux for a once a month event, so what I did, is I bought a used tux from a rental place for a "C" note, and brought it to one of the tailors. He is an older guy from Italy with the oldest sewing machine I've ever seen. This thing was powered by water wheel when it was new. Well, he made this thing look like bespoke. It is perfect! All for $300, $100 for the tux and $200 for tailoring. It would have been even less, but he had to remove the stripes from the trousers before he could taper the legs, and then re-apply the stripes. Maybe all you need is a good tailor who can re-craft off the rack suits for you.
