Cavanagh Question.

The Cavanagh I recently won was listed as a 50's era, but it has a Brown sweat band so I am wondering about its age.

I also noticed the ribbon/bow on this hat to be slightly different than my other Cavanagh which is 50's.

Does that help anyone out there to speculate on the era of this hat?

I don't know when Cavanagh switched over from Brown to Black sweat bands, just curious if it may be a older than a 50's.

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

One of these days I'll get my digital camara working and post some pics of my hats aquired since I started collecting back in October.

Tim,

Hard to estimate the age without photos. Do you have a link to the eBay auction? Describe what you mean by "different" in regards to the ribbons. What markings are on the sweatband, liner, and any tags under the sweatband? Crown height, block, and brim width are usual clues to a hat's age, but with Cavanagh it can be far more difficult to tell.

Cavanagh never really switched to black sweatbands. Dobbs started using them in the late-'50s, as did other Hat Corporation Brands, but not Cavanagh. They don't start showing up with any regularity on Cavanaghs until the 1970s.
