I've been thinning out my vintage hat collection and this is part two of my sale. It is a Carroll John Homburg by John Cavanagh, ltd. Boy oh boy, what a beauty! I'd guess it to be from the 40s. According to our resident Cavanagh expert, Brad Bowers, this hat is fairly rare. I personally have never seen another like it on e-bay or anywhere else. The felt is lightweight, and in great condition. There are no moth bites or other visible damage to the felt and this is certainly one dapper lid. The tip sticker indicates that this hat was produced without a liner to allow for wear in the warmer months. This homburg features a very elegant grey colored felt with a unique purple ribbon for the brim treatment (as seen in photo 2). I would love to keep this hat but it's not my size and I don't have the heart to alter it. It's looking for a good home with someone whose head is slightly smaller than mine. FYI, this hat does have the original box but both the top and bottom lids have split/seperated. However, there was an apparent attempt to tape them back together long before I acquired this hat (as seen in photo 4). I'm asking $100 shipped with the original box (in the 48). I can usually ship within 48 hours. Paypal only please!
