Captain Hastings, Hercule Poirot's associate, is the character that inspires me the most, as far as dressing goes. There's also his love for fast sporty 30's cars, and the fact that he is the perfect British gentleman. Does anyone know who made his suits and hats for the series?

Capt Hastings is one cool customer. He'd have to be to put up with the snotty Poirot. I love the show and especially love the look of the clothes, the locations, and the cars.

Speaking of the Poirot series, (the good ones, with David Suchet of course), I have noted that Poirot himself often wears flowers on his lapels. He has some kind of silver (?) "broch" shaped as a tiny cone, that he puts the flowers in.

Kind of a portable micro flower-vase! (I wonder if he puts a drop of water in it?) Very dandy, very stylish. Does anybody know if this was common, and where I can get one?

I love all the clothing details in the series, and the fact that certain pieces are re-used, like the flower broch, Poirots deco robe, and his wonderful canes. (One with a swan-shaped handle for strolling, and one with built-in binoculars for derby, hiking and spying!) Many series dress their characters in new clothes all the time, very unrealistic. Even wealthy people would use favorite things for many years!

Poirot was given the lapel vase by a loved one in a flash back scene, he always wears it. They where not commonly worn, being the sort of thing only a dandy (like Poirot) would wear.

However you can still buy them in most decent jewellers.

Regarding Poirot, an excellent show and as for Miss Lemon mmmmn...

I've only read one Poirot book (don't even remember which one), but I've read that the most accurate depiction of Poirot is Peter Ustinov. He played him 5 times. He's plumper, and much fussier. But I of course love David Suchet, as well. One thing that's amazing about the series is how they keep finding wonderful Deco buildings for the locations.

I have always enjoyed the Poirot programs. Everything about the production is well done.
The lapel vase has a particular name that escapes me right now....
