These were probably no pet dogs but work dogs. Think huskies and malamutes, not poodles.

A friend of mine has a malamute/alsatian cross. It is the biggest dog I have ever seen! He weighs around 150lbs.....and his fur is VERY thick.

But I really don't think my friend would be happy to think of someone wearing his best friend as a coat!:eeek::D;)

BTW, great pics - I guess it is cold most of the time in Canada (I've felt the wind blowing up Yonge Street in winter!:eeek:)

I don't know about cold all the time in Canada: last time I was there it was 30 degrees! The time before that it was minus 30!! I could have done with a dog fur coat that time.

One of my old school friends is living in Canada now. He is a carpenter making housing for oil sands workers in the far north (up above Grand Prairie, Alberta?). He said it's not much fun trying to work outdoors! He sent me a Xmas card with the words 'Let it snow' on the front. He'd written inside 'for god's sake make it stop snowing!' He needs a dog skin coat.

Spring is coming, it will probably stop snowing in May or June at the latest.

What kills me is, he is on about the same latitude as Newcastle upon Tyne. Where I live (Cobourg Ontario) is the same latitude as Monaco. Ottawa which dukes it out with Moscow for the world's coldest national capital, is on the same latitude as Venice. What a ripoff. Where's this global warming they keep promising?

Very dapper. A sign of the times I guess....women not allowed in public bars, whites only golf clubs, dog skin jackets.....times have changed.

St John's Newfoundland is bathed by the Labrador stream, directly coming from Greenland, bringing icebergs southwards (ask the skipper at the Titanic). Labrador stream finally blends into the Gulf Stream, well south of NY coast.

We don't want it because there'd be no reason to buy outerwear and hats!

(Also, we can do without the poisonous snakes and bugs and zombies moving northwards with the warm weather.)
