Can you identify this plant?

I searched for a thread about gardens but I got pages and pages of threads completely unrelated to anything about gardens!

When I take the dog out she loves running over these plants in the green I take her to, I think she likes the feeling of them on her tummy lol.

So when I have a garden I want to plant some for her. But I don't know what they are, does anyone here know?

Thanks!

Right on the money. Although it could be the variegated variety. Hard to tell from the photo. Most nurseries have them for under $5 for a one gallon plant.

This is purple fountain grass.

Can you ask the property owner what kind of grass it is? If not, find a local plant society--they should be able to tell you.

It's a public area. Maybe when I have a garden i'll just go to a garden centre and ask about it and buy some.

thanks for the replies everyone :)

If it's a public area, it has be managed by some government agency or public group. There is probably a posting somewhere about who manages the property.

Or just pull a stalk of it out of the ground and take it to your garden center.

Might be better to use some sturdy scissors to get a sample. I don't think snipping a leaf and a seed head would hurt the plants.

I'm not a botanist but that looks very, very similar to New Zealand tussock grass.

It is actually possible that it is this as I do know varieties of NZ plants are available in the UK.

By the way, can I just say how totally sweet it is of you to want to acquire some of this for your pooch? That's a fantastic and loving pet owner if I ever saw one! :eusa_clap

You're welcome. I'm pretty certain it is that.

If you pick some up for your garden, it's incredibly hardy, doesn't mind frosts, extreme cold or warmth. Although it's a wild grass it's become popular back home as an ornamental plant for gardens.

OMGCUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTE! What a sweet face.

It's crazy what we'll do for our pets, isn't it? I haven't seen *that* thread here yet. My cats used to look out the window at the pigeons on the porch, and when I put in my AC they gave me sad faces about not being able to see out the window, so they got their own perch above the AC.
