Can you help me find pretty, classic-fitting "Sweater Girl" sweaters?

I am trying to buy new (not vintage) sweaters for myself and have checked online at almost ever major outlet, even ModCloth. All I am seeing is billowy, asymmetrical monstrosities with stripes, sequins, studs, zippers and nausea-inducing prints. I can't find anything form-fitting and elegant.

If you could link to some NEW classic fitting sweaters that are tall-gal friendly, I can order from the states and are priced under $150, I would be grateful! I have seen some lovely items but they are way out of my budget. Oh, and I like natural fibers, too.

Thanks!

Bettie Page are selling nice twin sets (you can buy them separately). Probably not natural fibres though (not sure). Available in black, rust or purple. Sizes from xs to 4xl.

A few years ago I found some nice cotton sweaters from the Bonton. Both pull over and cardigans. The pull overs were of two styles- one more roomy (but not excessively so) and one that was very fitted. Both pullovers had crew necks. They have lasted me well and they were on sale for like $20 or so when I bought them. I think you can order from the Bonton online.

J Crew and Banana Republic always have some classically stye
led apparel. Also JC Penney offers nice sweaters, particularly by Worthington and Liz Claiborne.
(And now I'm in the mood to shop....)

Sadly I tried those places, in person and online, and couldn't find any that came close to what I was seeking or if I did it was out of stock in the color I wanted. But I agree, JC Penney usually does have something classic and cotton from Liz C; I've bought some of their sweaters. J Crew is usually too short-fitting for me.

Some of the ones I got are studio works. But it looks like they changed the style a bit (the collar was higher around the neck, and it was a little fuller). The other ones I got were from Izod. I think the Izod ones were slightly more expensive (we're talking like maybe $30?) and I think better quality.

One of my studio work sweaters did develop a small hole under the armpit after about 20 wearings, but I patched it. But I also paid $20 for it, and it might have come that way from the store as I didn't check under the sleeves. The other ones I have that are studio works I have worn as much with no problems. I wash them in the washing machine too, so I'm not ultra gentle or anything like that.

So ladies, i went back to the mall.

You know what's infuriating to me? How paper thin the "sweaters" and knit tops are at most of the stores! I found some cute looking all cotton tops at Anne Taylor but they were like tissue paper!

I ended up buying some tops at Macy's and Sears in the old lady sections. I'm not kidding.;) Karen Scott is a low end line (has never lasted long for me) but there are many basics made of cotton and are low priced.

I just got home from the mall, which is far from my favorite place, but not too bad on a weekday morning. Managed to get a pair of nice sweaters from the Liz Clairborne dept. at Penney's, but in general, the things I saw were disappointing. The lame, all-over-the-place-but-suspiciously-80s styling was one thing, but the color selection was another. As an autumn redhead, these bright flashy primary colors just don't do it for me. Where are the muted, marled, heathered fall shades?
Btw, a couple years ago I got a lovely little top very similar to Lana's above. It's ivory knit, with satin sleeves, button down, and even came with a little black belt.

Thanks, Lily. I had actually checked out Talbot's but didn't see pullover sweaters which I really want.

So I went back to Macy's and bought more Karen Scott sweaters just now. They are on sale, have lots of nice color options and are 100% cotton!

I'm tall and these are not too short, either.

I do know these aren't made to last, but after shopping around online and off, I think this is the best and most affordable option. Also, the knit fabric isn't thin but a nice weight.
