I have never tried this but reading from other threads I think it cannot be swirled. To swirl grosgrain ribbon it has to be made from cotton and rayon. Of course I could be wrong. Maybe someone experienced could post a more substancial reply than I can.
For as little as is needed at 80 cents a yard with fast service, there is no reason not to. Judith's 5-dollar sample kit has all her ribbons with their stock numbers attached for fast color match and phone or on-line ordering.
"Swirling" is how you get the ribbon to conform to the hat when you install it. When you get a cotton/rayon mix ribbon wet, it gets flexible and easily conforms to whatever you stick it on- but polyester does not. Besides, polyester doesn't look as nice anyway
I don't know if I put my ribbons on weird or something, but I've never actually had to "swirl" the ribbon during the installation. I've seen pics of ribbon all curled up and stuff, but all I've had to do is just wet it and pull it tight and that works. No actual "swirling" involved. [huh]
