Campdraft Conversion. Thin ribbon club beware!

You know, I love my silverbelly campdraft, but the glen grey one just didnt do it for me with the thin ribbon.

So I wandered into the Hattery in Katoomba yesterday and picked up some very nice grosgrain ribbon and a stack of advice from the wonderful ladies therein.

After reading the scant information available on the web regarding the method, I set about replacing the thin grey ribbon with a nice wide black one. We dont have a sewing machine so its all needle and thread work.

Below are the results.

Its completely changed the hat. Its back on my favourites list!

My apologies to the thin ribbon brigade, but rest assured I am not screwing around with my silverbelly!

Great job! That's a very impressive hat. The almost purple looking bound edge gives the hat attitude as well, and in combination with the main colors, I like it.

I need to do something like that with my Tawny Fawn; ever since I got the Bluegrass Green, the tawny's just been sitting there, untouched lol!

It looks amazing James!

James, you worked a miracle! That Campdraft is fantastic with the new wider ribbon. Your workmanship is top notch also. I like it! Thinking about getting into the custom hat business??

That is a great idea. Now I will have to get another CD! I definitely want a hat in my collection with that look. What is cool to me is that the brim to crown proportion of the Campdraft really shines through either way.

Why do you ask?
That looks fantastic! What I like about changing out ribbons to taste is it makes for a much more personal hat. [this from someone who doesn't own a hat with an aftermarket ribbon]

Kind of reminds me of what I had major Moore do to my Federation.
He cut the brim to 2 5\8s and put a bound edge on it.

While Feds are very nice hats, I can't say they are my favorite style. However, this hat has nice dimensions and looks great on you (especially matched up with the leather jacket).

I agree. I think the bound edge gives it that much of a finished look, which really works.

That looks great, RBH! Kudos to the Major :eusa_clap.

Is that a Mk. III? The brim looks pretty wide. I hated my FedIV, it looked waaaaay too small. Once I broke out the ruler I found that it was narrower by up to a quarter of an inch, all the way around...:(.
