Camel hair jacket & cowboy boots?

Personally I think it could work, i.e., a camel hair blazer, dark boots without any obvious reptile configurations, dress jeans or slacks, a dress shirt, and perhaps a Stratoliner or OR lid to finish things off. The look of the guy that OWNS the ranch. After all, I've seen tweed jackets in Western wear stores, albeit with leather elbow/shoulder patches and the like. What say you?

Yes, I am a fan. I have a camel/cashmere overcoat that I wear with my chestnut brown Justin ropers and a brown westernish fedora......love the look.

If cowboy boots are common where you live, I see no reason why the look you describe wouldn't work quite nicely.

Sport coats, jeans and causal boots and shoes have been an accepted look since the late '60s as traditional lines were crossed with attire. Robert Redford drove it home for me in his '75 move "Three Days of the Condor" where he rocked a herringbone sport coat, jeans and hiking boots.

I know some hate the look and some love it, but it is quite common and has been for decades now. Hence, your variation on the theme - a camel hair sport coat, jeans and cowboy boots seems more-than acceptable.

The other angle to come at this from is the "what standards are left" angle? I see sweats and even PJs regularly worn in public now. Suits, sport coats, ties, etc. are becoming rarer and rarer. Hence, IMHO, any reasonable outfit that includes a sport coat will elevate the general level of attire in most situations today.

I wear a sport coat, jeans, and Alden 405's. Seems natural to me, and I feel comfortable with the combination.

If cowboy boots are your aesthetic and, in a social or work environment (whatever the context) don't stick out as an affectation (obviously Texas is very different to London, say, in this regard), then I see no reason why not. I imagine it's been done for a very long time. Probably looks a darn sight better than wearing canvas All-Stars with a suit....

Yuck. I saw this very thing last Friday. Bright blue converse shoes with a "suit". I was making idle conversation with the guy while waiting at a bar. He was sitting on a bar stool and kept pulling at the crotch of the trousers and said "my pants keep riding up". And it wasn't a surprise, they were slightly shiny and too small. I said nothing. Just sighed inwardly.

This is so true. I live in NYC, but have traveled to Dallas and Houston on business several times. The first day or two you are there, the cowboy boots, big buckles and Stetsons throw you a bit - they seem visually somewhat jarring. And they are all worn with business suits to business meetings - not by every local, but by many of them.

But after a few days, they don't look off anymore as your eye adjusts. Then you start to notice more of the nuance in the items and that some people are really good at incorporating them into their business attire, business casual attire, etc. It's amazing, to me, how quickly one adjusts and how much we accept a look that appeared a bit strong at first as normal once we are immersed in it.

I wouldn't mind so much - live and let live an aw that.... it's just that so many people who do this all seem to think they're being so desperately original and rebellious.... That gets old.

I live in Southern California, ride horses Very Frequently, and wear very similar outfits quite frequently. Really, it all depends upon the cut and fit of the coat (and finish), I probably wouldn't try it with one of those fuzzy fluffy camel hair sport coats, but a tightly woven hard finish one; definitely. I wear my cowboy boots with hop-sack, with tweed, with plain weave, with twill, with anything that I can imagine, just make sure that your belt is interesting and ties the coat to the boots. I particularly like the look of flared leg wool slacks with cowboy boots and a sport coat, or of Levis 517s, or Wrangler skinnies with boots and a sport coat. Especially the Whiskey colored Wrangler skinnies. It helps if the boots have a nice deep heel, and a chisel toe. Try it with a BB OCBD, or a nice discrete work shirt cut shirt, like from RRL, or a light flannel shirt, or a polo. It also looks great with a simple and discrete necktie or a simple silver concho bolo tie if you want to go really wild. I probably wouldn't try it with pleated trousers, but that's just me.
