Hi everyone:
Spotted two camel hair coats at a nearby store...wondering how to determine the age of them? They were in great condition. What do I need to look for as far as lining, buttons, etc. Thanks!

The problem with camel hair coats is that they become thread worn at the cuff, collar and pocket much sooner than the rest of the garment. Same thing with cashmere.

Camel hair overcoats have been around for a long time. It's fairly easy to find vintage ones from the 1960s and '70s. Once in a long while, a camel hair overcoat from the 1930s will pop up on eBay.

As for camel hair sportcoats, they're a fairly new phenomenon. The oldest ones I've come across are from the 1970s. Most of the ones in vintage clothing stores and thrift stores are from the 1980s.

That is a nice looking coat. I'm gonna go back and check those coats out.
Thanks.
