buying hides to build a leather jacket

Hi all, I tried searching if this thread had been made before but I was unable to find it (apologies if it's subject that's already been treated) so here I am.
The more I'm interested in jackets, the more I think about wanting to control every detail about it: leather, lining, zippers, snaps....so it got me thinking. Is it actually doable to buy the leather, the liner, the zips and caps and have someone build it for me?

I found a couple of shops doing this in Paris but I still have some questions:
- I'd love to build a clean perfecto in unique colors but how many hides should I buy for that to happen ?
- How heavy can the hide be (from what I see above 4.5 ounce is not recommended) ?
- If I want a custom lining like Harris Tweed, how much fabric would I need to prepare?

I know those are questions I should ask those artisans but I'd like to come in a little prepared.

About me:
I'm 5"8 187, between a typical 40/42.

Hides I have in mind:

- fallback: https://www.oaleathersupply.com/col...n-leather-dublin-black?variant=22654546739282

Thanks for your help

Anything bespoke is best left to the artisan doing the making. They have suppliers, know details like the waste that happens after cutting out the panels from an overlaid pattern, they can help and advise throughout the whole process. Just a word of caution, bespoke anything will cost that much more, it's worth asking the price, or checking the website to see if they put up their bespoke price, before you do anything else.

Thanks for your input. I agree for bespoke where it has to be an experience between the maker and the buyer. What I’m talking about here is more like a “made-to-measure” service where I’d want to make sure what materials are used as the base. The prices I’ve seen at those shops are on par with buying a decent ready-made jacket but I’m not sure of the quality of the materials used and I wouldn’t want to trade quality of materials for comfort. Greedy me wants both.
