When wearing a one button Black Tie peaked lapel jacket with a waistcoat, should the jacket be left open all of the time to show the waist coat, or should the jacket be buttoned?
I was watching "Suspicion" last night, the Carry Grant and Joan Fontaine, Hitchcock-directed movie and in one scene, Grant wears a three button sport coat (not a 3/2 roll, but a true 3 button) and he has only the bottom button buttoned and it looks awkward as the jacket bows out a bit toward the upper third owing to it being "anchored" too low by the bottom button. Overall, Cary Grant's clothes are spectacular in the movie - gorgeous suits, shirts, ties and accessories and he has several outfit changes - but the buttoning of the bottom of three buttons looked odd and produced the odd bowing I mentioned.
