Many years ago, 1970 to be exact, I was living in Cambridge Mass, having just gotten out of the good old USMC. I was wearing my old green uniform coat around and I guy knew took a shine to it. He asked me if I'd like to trade for a few weeks, and wear the jacket he was wearing at the time. I said sure.
Well, I wish I still had that jacket. It was a WWII flyer's leather jacket, with shearling lining. But the cool thing about it was the back. It had a leather American and Chinese flag sewed on. And on the inside it had, printed on a piece of silk sewn in, in Chinese and English, words to the effect of "I am an American airman. If you find me, my government will pay you big bucks for rescuing me and getting me back home." I have no doubt whatsoever that it was authentic. The guy who owned it said it was used by a pilot flying over the hump to Burma. Anyone have any more info on such a jacket? There are no words to express how much I wish I still had it, but I traded it back to the guy who originally owned it, after wearing it for a couple of months.
To put it all into perspective, at that time, 1970, WWII was more recent than 1970 is today.
