Brim width measurement?

What is the proper way to measure brim width? If there is a proper way.
Is the brim measured from the crown out to the edge? Or, should the brim be measured from the underside, from the outer edge of the leather sweatband out to the edge of the brim? Which would be the more acceptable?
Just curious. [huh]

Wouldn't both be the same? My question would be, should the measurement be with the brim flattened or should it be the distance between the crown and brim edge with the brim curled in its "natural" state?

When I have sold hats on eBay, I used the flattened, crown-to-edge measurement, and have received no complaints . . .

Razzman, normal measuring is done front & back from the outside of crown to outside of brim ( flat) . With a normal brim the sides will be wider than front & back, with dimensional brim that would be reversed ( sides narrower)
