Leading Online Fashion Bulletin Boards to Merge
By Alan C. Trad and Paddy O'Smiley-Face
April 1 (Bloomberg) -- In a move widely anticipated on Wall Street, the owners of two small but influential Internet bulletin boards announced today that they have reached tentative agreement on a merger that will create the world's largest and most opinionated online community of "high-armhole thrift-shop fashionistas, Allen-Edmonds aficionados, and jitterbug enthusiasts."
To be known as "Ask Andy and Mike About Fedoras, Vintage Leather Flight Jackets, and Other Crap," (www.aamafvlfjaoc.com) the online site will, according to new co-CEOs Michael Key and Andy Gilchrist, be the first Internet property to "accurately display black text on a black background."
In describing the logic behind the merger, Key said: "Although the World Wide Web seems to be rapidly catching on, there is still not a critical mass of men and women brave enough to wear brown shoes and hats with navy suits. By consolidating our efforts and ignoring our other business ventures, Andy and I believe that we can successfully turn this situation around on or before Christmas 2009."
The merger had first been proposed several months ago but was stalled by what one former Fedora Lounge moderator described as "a distinct lack of enthusiasm among the bartenders." According to this former FL mod, Gilchrist expects his "forum moderators" to serve without pay while Key compensates his "bartenders" under a complicated formula based upon their "expertise, hat size, sex appeal, and resemblance to Golden Era movie stars."
Agreement was reached after around-the-clock negotiations when Gilchrist reportedly relented and agreed to a compromise whereby the newly consolidated staff will receive compensation in the form of "discount codes" to Sierra Trading Post and a "first-right-of-refusal" in all Goodwill Stores nationwide.
The new online site is to be comprised of several fora that will, according to Key and Gilchrest, be an "amalgam" of the best of Ask Andy and the Fedora Lounge, including:
