Bow Ties

Out of the pictures you posted I think only Bogart manages to look natural in a bow tie. As well as off set he exclusively wears one in the "The Enforcer" where he plays a DA, perhaps because it was appropriate for the character.

The difference I suppose is that Bogart wore a bow tie as a private person, whereas the doctors were "in costume".

Furthermore, Doctor Who as a character is supposed to look somewhat eccentric and out of place wherever he goes, which no doubt exaggerates the 'costume' feel. Personally, I'm very pleased that, at least of the last Christmas special is anything to go by, the Eleventh Doctor has graduated to wearing real bow ties.

Thanks for the heads-up on that seller, Edward. I've just bought four bow ties from them. A bargain!

Look forward to comparing notes on them at the next Sheridan meeting. :)

I have an interesting bow tie story. Back in the early 1970's, our county was going through property tax revaluation. There was a very heated County Commissioners meeting at our local high school gym. The Chairman of the County Commissioners was a supporter of the revaluation process. While the Commissioner was talking at the meeting, one of the irate citizens jumped up and grabbed the Commissioner by his neck tie, pulled out a straight razor, and clean as you please cut the Commissioner's neck tie off right at the knot. From that day until today, the man will only wear a bow tie. The bow tie has become his "trademark" and the story is still remembered after all these years.

Shades of Burns Bannion, who wore a bow tie for the same reason most police uniforms now use a clip-on necktie - it can't be used to grab you.

Retirement and sunshine, fingers crossed I might even think of dusting of the straws soon. My retirement is a mixed blessing, I need something to occupy me the way Tina has her dressmaking. To that end I agreed to help out at work as and when. Usually for annual leave and sick absence.

A call last night had me back in for a few hours this morning. The bow tie was well received, Tina will be pleased, she came across an off cut of fabric that made her consider a bow tie. The end result is impressive, it garnered a few compliments this morning.

One thing that was so, "retired." Once the panic that I was called in to help out with was over, I bid them all farewell. Time was when I would have been there for another seven hours or so.
