There's a place called Toppers of Boston. Located at 230 Newbury Street.
They carry your basic line of factory made hats, Stetson, Biltmore, Dobbs.

For vintage only, check out Bobby's of Boston, over on Albany street, by the MBTA garage. (The now called "SoWA" district.)
A bit pricey, but a great selection (if you're head isn't too big.)

Hemmingway Jones has a place out in Brookline (oops) he goes to, a bit hit or miss in thehat dept.

And on Charles St, there's a place that specializes in mostly Cowboy hats.

BTW Welcome to the lounge if I hadn't mentioned it before.

BOSTON! LETS GO PATRIOTS!!!
Welcome to The Lounge!

If you can get to Brookline, Cafe Society is a great little vintage shoppe. My roommate Hemingway Jones has gotten a few, really good condition hats from there. They can be hit or miss, as Dalexs says. But, Betsey, the woman who owns the store, is great. If you don't see something out, just ask her. She has things hidden all over the store, so she might just remember a hidden gem somewhere.
Bobby From Boston has a ton of hats. I don't really know much about mens hats, but I have been to both his store and his warehouse, and was amazed at the size of his collection. He is on the pricier side, but, since he supplies clothing and hats for movies, a lot of his items are in really good condition. He is in the South End, and his hours can be funny. Sometimes he just closes down in the middle of the day for no reason. Look him up on line first, and give him a call before you head out there just to make sure he is open. The store is incredible, not just for hats, but also for clothes. He has quite the collection. If you do go in, tell them Tim and Cheryl sent you. I hope Bobby will be there when/if you go. He is quite the character, and really knowledgeable. I don't know if this will help at all. But, most of the people who work there know us as customers. Who knows, can't hurt to mention us (I hope!:))
Happy Hat Hunting
Glad to see another Bostonian here in the Lounge.

Toppers...

Hello,

I've been to Toppers, and I wrote a review of it here about a month ago. While tastes differ, I suggested passing the place by.

The quality of hats is low, while the prices are full retail. The only Stetson fedora I saw had so much powder on it, it looked like it was caked with mud. The only Dobbs was a straw with a poorly formed brim. The rest of the hats were very crude "New York Hat Company" items.

Again, tastes differ.

The two closest stores to Boston are Aarons Hats in NH and Delmonico Hats in New Haven CT . Why there isn't a good shop in Boston is beyond me . It's a great city . We send a lot of hats there via our site and catalog .
