Blade Runner - The Final Cut

So the local theater is showing Blade Runner - The Final Cut tomorrow night. I'm getting together with my old college buddies to see it and have a few pops at the local pub afterward. I couldn't care less about any Star Wars related, but I'm getting totally geeked up about this.

If only you could see what I've seen with your eyes...

Everybody talks about Ridley Scott, and he deserves much credit, but it was Syd Mead's production design that made "Blade Runner" one of the greatest films of all time. And Vangelis's score. There was never a better example of film as a collaborative art.

Not looking like it's gonna re-hit the big screen around here any time....but I did just score a copy this very afternoon at walmart for $5. Looking real forward to watching it again. I don't think I've seen it since I caught it the first go round. That's been what?...a few years ago now?

Didn't realize it until the preview, but this was part of Cinemark's "Classic Series". Next week is Treasure of the Sierra Madre, followed by Blazing Saddles, and next month, the (Un?)Official Film of the Fedora Lounge...The Maltese Falcon. Later this year they're doing The Ten Commandments, On The Waterfront, Dr. Strangelove and The Shining among others.

I think it's held up remarkably well. The opening flying scene is still gorgeous. Do that with CGI today and see what it looks like in 30 years...

Would love to see it on the big screen...

Oh, it's INCREDIBLE on the big screen. I saw it at the TIFF Lightbox cinema last Fall - one showing only (and "Alien" came on afterwards!) and in a 2K presentation and the cinema was full.
I'd not seen BR since the original cinema release and that was at the old ABC cinema in Sheffield. I know this film so well, having all the versions on the 5-disc collector's set as its one of my all-time favourites and I went off to see the Ultimate Cut at TIFF - and was totally blown away! It's a true sci-fi/film-noir masterpiece and it just oozes atmosphere in every scene on the big screen.
When Deckard is flying to the Tyrell Corporation in the introduction and the spinner cars are zipping by, I couldn't believe it when the sound effect of one car whizzed by me to my left - and below! I was like "How in the hell did they do that?!?!"
It's a complete treat - it was then and especially now.

A sarcastic but funny question about the whole "is Deckard a replicant or not" debate.

But for the question, if he's a replicant, you don't even need the unicorn origami, in my opinion.

When I saw the 1982's theatrical (US) cut for the very first time, at age 16, I already thought about, if he's human. I mean, come on, how can a human be so "battered" without beeing heavily injured??

It's was always obvious, that Deckard has super strength.
