So i know the old saying "never wear white after labor day", but does this apply to B & W wing tips as well? I planned on wearing a pair for my wedding this November, but my soon-to-be mother in-law hit me with that line.

Say it isn't so...

The old adage still holds true, so your Mother-In-Law is right about wearing white, but Spectators were worn all year. And Spectators and would garner stares any time of year. How does your future Mum feel about your dressing vintage?

Personally, if you are getting married in the afternoon and in a tropical climate, so that you are a wearing white jacket, they would look perfect. With an all black tuxedo, it is a bolder look and tougher to pull off.

However, Ted Dansen in "Cousins" wore a white dinner jacket, black pants, and brown on tan Spectators and the man pulled it off. That is style and, for one movie, he had it.

The bottom line is, it's your big day. Dress how it pleases you.

Good luck!

Wear them in good health. Don't give the time of day to anyone who would judge you by such an outdated, unimportant "rule".

Tom Wolfe, the author, wears white all year long. He started doing so in the '60s, just to annoy his fellow New Yorkers.

Do what you want.

No white after, or before, xxx date is a bit like not starting to eat until everyone has been served: Outdated rubbish that noone quite knows where it originated. but probably originated sometime in the Victorian era when most of these "rules" came into being ...

pet peeve of mine.
