Black on Red "Portis"....

It arrived today, nifty little hat....pleasantly surprised with it. It's in great shape, hardly had to do anything to it really, she,(the seller) said it was never worn....I tend to believe her. I'll probably leave the bash as is on this one as well, only because it's a short crown at 4 1/4". Even when I put a center crease in it, and put it on....it forms a tiny C-Crown anyway, as my head touches the top of the hat. Stingy at 1 7/8",(go figure) nice little 1/4" bound edge also, and it has that unusual checked Grosgrain also (1 7/8"). I asked the seller if she knew that it was the original ribbon or not, but she didn't know? It has a brilliant Red satin liner that is spotless, I'm happy with that. I can't wait to wear it.

When I tried this hat on for the 1st time...it was almost saying to me, "Don't you dare snap that brim down", it was like it's meant to be worn snapped up.....

Can anyone put a date on it for me?

By the way, what do they mean by "Sterling Quality"?

I really like the detailing on that one, Bolthead, The honeycomb ribbon is really neat, and the red liner makes it pop. At this point, you've really got quite a few hats with interesting, unusual liners, don't you?

That's what immediately 1st caught my eye, was the Ribbon, then when I seen that bright red liner, on the black felt, I had to have it.

I was wondering why this thread was dug up? [huh]
